Start on Purpose Corporation ("Start on Purpose", "us," “the Company”, or "we") respects the privacy of the visitors to its Website, the home page of which is located at (“Website”). This Privacy Policy hereby incorporates by reference all terms, conditions, rules, policies and guidelines on the Website, including the Start on Purpose Terms & Conditions of Service for the Website and Advertiser Terms & Conditions (“Terms”).

This Privacy Policy applies only to Website Users and members of the Website; it does not apply to any information about companies and individuals that sponsor our entrepreneurial education initiatives or enroll in one of our “Resource Directory” services (Funding Directory, Service Professional Directory, Business Space and Location Directory or Product Directory.)

We reserve the right to modify the provisions in this Privacy Policy without prior notice to you, so please check back often for updates.

By submitting information through the Website, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy and you expressly consent to the processing of your Personal Information according to this Privacy Policy. Your Personal Information may be processed by Start on Purpose in the country where it was collected, as well as other countries (including the United States) where laws regarding processing of Personal Information may be less stringent than the laws in your country.

This Privacy Policy is intended to inform you of our policies and practices regarding the collection, use and disclosure of Personal Information, Member Account Information and Anonymous Information you submit to us through our Website.

We may store the information you submit to or through the Website, as well as information we collect in connection with your use of the Website.  We use this information to fulfill your requests, provide the Website’s functionality, improve the Website’s quality, personalize your experience, track usage of the Website, provide feedback to businesses that are listed on the Website or within its Resource Directories, display relevant advertising, provide customer support, message you, back up our systems and allow for disaster recovery, enhance the security of the Website, and comply with legal obligations.

Among the information we collect, please note:

Legal obligations:  Start on Purpose cooperates with law enforcement inquiries, as well as other third parties to enforce laws, such as: intellectual property rights, fraud, theft, harassment and other rights. We can (and you authorize us to) disclose any information about you, including the content of your online communications, if we have a good faith belief that such investigation or disclosure is (a) reasonably necessary to comply with legal process and law enforcement instructions and orders, such as a search warrant, subpoena, statute, judicial proceeding, or other legal process served on us; (b) helpful to prevent, investigate, or identify possible wrongdoing in connection with the Website; (c) protect our rights, reputation, property, or that of our users, affiliates, or the public; or (d) respond to an emergency that poses a threat to the safety of our employees, affiliates, Users or other persons.

Children:  We do not intentionally gather Personal Information about Website Users who are under the age of 18.

Account Information: If you create a membership account at our Website, we may store and use your name, email address, zip code and other information you may provide with your account. You can modify some of the information associated with your membership account through your onsite Dashboard tools.

Personal Information:  Personal information is information about you that is personally identifiable to you, like your name, address, email address as well as other non-public information that is associated with the foregoing. We use Personal Information for our own internal purposes including contacting you via email to inform you about updates to our Website and delivery of newsletters. You may opt out of receiving these newsletters by changing your preferences through your onsite Dashboard tools at any time. Notice that you cannot op out of receiving certain administrative or legal notices from Start on Purpose. If you send information from the Website to your phone via SMS text message, we may log your phone number, phone carrier, and the date and time that the message was processed.  Carriers may charge recipients for texts that they receive.

Anonymous Information: means information that is not associated with or linked to your Personal Information; Anonymous Information does not permit the identification of individual persons. We may create Anonymous Information from (i) automatically gathered information or (ii) Personal Information by excluding information, such as names, that make the information personally identifiable to you.

We may use Anonymous Information to analyze inquiry, request and usage patterns so that we may enhance our services and the Website. We reserve the right to use and disclose Anonymous Information to third parties in our discretion.

Recommendations and Invitations to Your Contacts: You can make recommendations and invite your business colleagues and friends to join the Website by providing their contact information, or by allowing us to use your address book from your computer, mobile device, or other Websites. If you invite business colleagues and friends to join and connect with you on the Website, we may transmit your colleague and friend’s contact information to Start on Purpose long enough to process your requests. We may use your email address to copy you on the message or to send on your behalf.

Transactional Information: If you purchase products (such as the Start on Purpose book) or services or enroll in one of our Resource Directories as an advertiser, we may collect and store certain information about you to process your requests. This information may be shared with third parties who help process and fulfill your purchase and payment requests.

Other Website Activity: We may store information about your use of the Website, such as your search activity, the pages you view, the date and time of your visit, and the businesses you call using our mobile applications. We also may store information that your computer or mobile device provides to us in connection with your use of the Website, such as your browser type, type of computer or mobile device, browser language, IP address, mobile carrier, unique device identifier, location, and requested and referring URLs.

We may offer contests, sweepstakes, promotions, business plan competitions, editorial features, or other activities or offerings that are sponsored or co-sponsored by or presented with identified third parties. By virtue of your participation in such activities or offerings, your IP address and the personally identifiable information that you voluntarily submit may be provided to this Website and the third parties. We have no control over the third parties' use of this information.

Terminating Your Account and Information Retention

We will retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. You can close your account through your member Dashboard tools. You may continue to receive email communications for a short period of time until we have updated all of our databases. After termination of your membership, your Personal Information may remain on our archived database and records. We may retain information about you for the purposes authorized under this Privacy Policy unless prohibited by law.

Correcting/Updating Your Information and Opting Out

We will take reasonable steps to accurately record the personal information that you provide to us and any subsequent updates.  We encourage you to review, update, and correct the personal information that we maintain about you through the member Dashboard tools.  Your right to review, update, correct, and delete your personal information may be limited, subject to the law or your jurisdiction: (i) if your requests are abusive or unreasonably excessive, (ii) where the rights or safety of another person or persons would be encroached upon, or (iii) if the information or material you request relates to existing or anticipated legal proceedings between you and us, or providing access to you would prejudice negotiations between us or an investigation of possible unlawful activity. Your right to review, update, correct and delete your information is subject to our records retention policies and applicable law, including any statutory retention requirements.

This Website gives the following options for changing and modifying information previously provided:

  1. You may update your registration information at your Dashboard tools after you register.
  2. This Website provides Users the opportunity to opt out of receiving promotional email communications from us, Start on Purpose newsletters and other Website information using Preferences, Email Notifications under the Settings section of the Website through your Dashboard tools.

Your California Privacy Rights: Notice to California Customers

California's "Shine the Light" law, Civil Code section 1798.83, requires certain businesses to respond to requests from California customers asking about the businesses' practices related to disclosing personal information to third parties for the third parties' direct marketing purposes. Alternately, such businesses may have in place a policy not to disclose personal information of customers to third parties for the third parties' direct marketing purposes if the customer has exercised an option to opt-out of such information-sharing. If you maintain an account with our Website, you may opt-out of our sharing of your information with third parties for the third parties' direct marketing purposes through your Dashboard.


If you join Start on Purpose as a member, we collect and store Personal Information that specifically identifies you or your Account. At this time, the most information you would be required to submit is your first name, last name, User ID, password, city, state, zip/postal code, your general business purpose, and email address.  Other information requested on our Registration page is optional. We may, in the future, include other optional requests for information from you to help us to tailor the Website for you and deliver personalized information to you.


We may send you email communications including information that we think may be of interest to you. You may opt out of receiving these email communications through your Dashboard tools.

Comments Submitted by Users

Start on Purpose constantly seeks to improve the quality of the services we provide. We value your input and encourage you to submit any comments you have to us by clicking on the link "Send a Suggestion" at the bottom of most of the pages on the Website. The "Send a Suggestion" page asks for your email address and name. If you provide this information, we will only use it to acknowledge or respond to your comments. Submitting comments via email will not cause you to receive any secondary or promotional material, unless specifically requested by you. In certain circumstances, we may ask for your permission to post your comments in marketing or promotional materials.


Although we currently do not have a parent company, any subsidiaries, joint ventures or other companies under a common control (collectively, "Affiliates"), we may in the future. We may share some or all of your Personal Information with these Affiliates, in which case we will require our Affiliates to honor this Privacy Policy.


We have put in place appropriate administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to help prevent unauthorized access, maintain data security and correctly use the information we collect. We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as Website Services change and expand. If we make substantial changes to this Privacy Policy, we will post the updated policy on this page and we will post a notice that this Privacy Policy has changed in the Dashboard tools section of the Website. Once any changes that we make to this Privacy Policy become effective, your continued use of the Website after such time will signify your acceptance of the new terms.
